by Aayush JugranIn a heartwarming display of compassion and solidarity, the NSS unit of Graphic Era Hill University (GEHU) collaborated with Goonj NGO. Prior to the event, a three-day clothing drive was organized within the university premises to encourage contributions from the GEHU community. Students and staff generously provided a plethora of garments, ranging from summer attire to everyday essentials, with the shared goal of making a meaningful impact on the lives of others.
On May 6th, the culmination of these efforts saw NSS GEHU volunteers heading to Rishikesh, delivering the collected clothing directly to Goonj NGO. Renowned for its impactful humanitarian work across the nation, Goonj NGO channels unused material from urban homes to far-flung villages of India, treating it as a valuable development resource. By bridging the gap between urban excess and rural scarcity, Goonj fosters sustainable development and empowers marginalized populations across the country.
During their visit, NSS unit volunteers had the invaluable opportunity to explore the processing center of Goonj NGO. They witnessed firsthand the meticulous process through which the organization transforms clothing materials into vital resources for communities in need. Notably, they observed the significant contribution of the female workforce in producing essential items like sanitary pads. This experience profoundly deepened their understanding of the tangible impact of their contributions. Through this immersive collaboration, GEHU's NSS unit and Goonj NGO epitomize the profound impact of collective action and compassionate engagement.
